Papers is a software engineering company founded on high-tech talent. We support the full lifecycle of innovative web3 products — from concept to software market fit — building secure, scalable futures for our clients and the internet at large.
With over a decade of experience and a reputation built on delivering for Fortune 500s and blockchain ecosystems, our teams combine deep technical know-how with a mission to enable meaningful, decentralized innovation.
As a remote-first, engineering-driven team, we work with autonomy and purpose. Our culture is built on meritocracy, long-term thinking, and a commitment to quality over buzz. We aim to collaborate with people who love tech for its own sake and want to help shape the future by solving real-world challenges.
Tasks
The Role
We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our team and take responsibility for the stability, automation, and continuous improvement of our infrastructure. You’ll be managing Linux systems, CI/CD pipelines, container environments, and cloud deployments — while also helping evolve how we build, test, and deploy across projects.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently in a technically-minded team, and who values clarity, pragmatism, and continuous learning.
Your Responsibilities
- Manage and improve our Linux-based infrastructure (Ubuntu).
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) to enable efficient software delivery.
- Set up and optimize Docker containers and (optionally) Kubernetes clusters.
- Automate infrastructure management with Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.
- Implement and monitor cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred).
- Configure and maintain Nginx and basic web service stacks.
- Define and enforce backup strategies and disaster recovery processes.
- Use monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and alerting systems to ensure availability.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support critical services.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to streamline integration and delivery.
- Continuously identify and automate repetitive tasks to reduce manual intervention.
Requirements
Tech Stack Overview
You’ll be working with:
- Linux (Ubuntu), GitLab CI, Docker, Docker-Compose
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Kubernetes (nice to have)
- Nginx, Prometheus, Grafana
- Scripting tools: Bash, Python
- Ansible, Terraform
Your Profile
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure roles.
- Proficient with Linux/Ubuntu system administration.
- Comfortable with Docker and CI/CD workflows
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
- Familiar with cloud services like GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Confident working with Nginx, shell scripting, and basic networking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Self-driven, self-organized, pragmatic, and comfortable working independently.
Benefits
Bonus if you have:
- Kubernetes or Helm experience
- Security hardening practices
- Contributions to open-source projects
- Background in blockchain/web3 infrastructure
- Experience scaling infrastructure in startup or high-growth environments.
