Contract Role - Kubernetes Platform Engineer (On-Prem / Bare-Metal)
Location: Remote
Start Date: ASAP
We are looking for a highly skilled Kubernetes Platform Engineer with hands-on experience managing vanilla Kubernetes on on-premises infrastructure to join a challenging, large-scale project within a major digital infrastructure environment.
You will play a key role in designing, automating, and operating Kubernetes clusters on bare-metal servers using modern Linux distributions such as Talos and Rancher. This role covers the full lifecycle of running a cloud-like platform across multiple datacenters—from physical server setup to advanced automation and platform operations.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement Kubernetes clusters in bare-metal, multi-datacenter environments.
- Drive automation initiatives using CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), GitOps, and DevOps best practices.
- Collaborate with a forward-thinking engineering team to design and operate container platforms supporting mission-critical workloads.
- Continuously improve infrastructure reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Participate in end-to-end platform operations, from physical installations to onboarding internal platform consumers.
Requirements
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes architecture & administration, especially in on-prem and bare-metal environments.
- Experience with Kubernetes-optimized Linux distributions (Talos, RancherOS, etc.).
- Passion for automation, with hands-on experience using CI/CD and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Familiarity with GitOps workflows.
- A builder mindset and strong problem-solving skills—comfortable working on complex systems from scratch.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively in a multi-team environment.
- Nice to have: Experience designing systems comparable to public cloud platforms.
